VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) is the practice of using an Internet connection to pass voice data using TCP/IP instead of using the standard public switched telephone network (PSTN).

Using VoIP for office-to-office communications can save you a lot of money. If you have several offices in different geographic locations with high-speed Internet access, rather than placing long distance telephone calls between offices, you can use your high-speed Internet connections.

The Vistech Asterisk server (powered by The Asterisk PBX software) gives you many options at less cost than a traditional PBX. You don't lose any functionality either. The typical Vistech Asterisk PBX install has the following capabilities:

  • VoIP (Using SIP, IAX2, H.323, SCCP). This is key for office-to-office communications.
  • Various codecs supported. For example, GSM, G.711, G.723, G.726, G.729, speex, lpc10, etc
  • VoIP calls between offices are encrypted.
  • QoS (Quality of Service) to ensure that your calls are clear, even during heavy data transfers.
  • Voice mail (no limited on voice mail boxes).
  • Conferencing
  • Caller ID, call transfer, remote call pickup, call parking
  • Auto-attendant, and much more.

Keep in mind, these are standard PBX features. The PBX is completely compatible with third party/free VoIP providers like Freeworld Dialup, SIPPhone.com, IPTel.org, IAXTel.org and more.

Commercial third party VoIP providers supported are, Vonage, Voicepulse, Packet8, Nufone and more.

Some third parties can provide DIDs (Direct Inward Dialups) in most (48) U.S states, and Europe. For example, let's say that your company's main office is in Tallahassee, Florida. You find that you have many customers in the New York area. Using a third party VoIP provider, you can have a phone number in New York that rings you office in Florida! DID's typically have no long distance rates, as the bulk of the call takes place over the Internet!

At this time, Vistech Communications can provide DID's for free (no monthly/no setup) for the following NPA's (Area codes). 350 (Washington State), 914 (New York), 347 (New York), 631 (New York), 845 (New York), and U.K! For more information about our VoIP services, please contact us!.
