| March, 2000 | THE LATEST SCOOP ON YOUR FARMLAND | Volume 12, Number 1 |
Our tenant has been very successful at getting the year off to a good start. The wheat looks great and our tenant has almost completed his pre-plant irrigation of the cotton fields. The only "fly in the ointment" is that farm product prices have not recovered from the low levels of last year.

This is how the wheat field looked on March 30th. The heads are just emerging, the stand is thick and the plants look healthy. Our tenant has high expectations for the yield potential of this wheat.

Here we see last year's new plastic pipes used in the pre-plant irrigation for cotton. This pre-plant irrigation is necessary because the cotton fields received insufficient rainfall to have adequate planting moisture. Our tenant will be planting both Acala upland cotton and Pima extra-long staple cotton this year. The price prospects are equally poor for both types of cotton, and our tenant apparently wishes to maximize his chances of losing money by diversifying.
